Tales from an Old Manuscript Johan van Benthem Abstract: ‘Possibility semantics’ for classical logics is on the rise these days, and it throws interesting new light on the borderline between classical and intuitionistic logic. This note is about a source from 1981 that is attracting some attention, a handwritten Tech Report from the Groningen Institute of Mathematics, never published, but with a facsimile on-line at http://dare.uva.nl/cgi/arno/show.cgi?fid=621016. I present its content, and discuss what issues this raises that may be of current relevance. Note: This paper appeared in a Festschrift on the occasion of the retirement of Albert Visser, edited by Jan van Eijck, Rosalie Iemhoff and Joost Joosten. Keywords: possibilities, modal logic, first-order logic, axiom of choice, ultra products, filter products
