Abstract
Reference and Representation
Paul Dekker
ILLC/Department of Philosophy
This paper motivates a unified treatment of anaphoric and demonstrative
pronouns in a dynamic epistemic predicate logic (EPL). Pronouns and
demonstratives are dealt with using model-theoretically construed partial
objects, which are understood to represent sources of information. The
paper also discusses to what extent the system and various alternative
theories of pronoun interpretation qualify as representational. EPL can be
seen to be a theory of (singular) pronouns which is as weakly
representational as possible.
