Abstract
Taking a historical line, we discuss major aspects of rationality from a logical and computational perspective. Topics include classical notions from the foundations of computability, insights from the de- velopment of computer science and AI, and the picture of rationality emerging in current logical studies of agency. We also discuss two chal- lenges. Distributed computing and evolutionary games replace ’high rationality’ by ’low rationality’ in behavior, so logic may not be neces- sary. Machine learning suggests that logical analysis may not even be possible. Both trigger new logical themes in the study of rationality.
